Music, Food and Art!

Encore!  Encore!  With no further adeiu, Lots to Gardens presents, Alive in Lewiston, a sequel to last November's "Soup and Music Night."  Last fall's fun-filled evening included a showcase of delicious recipes using locally grown and prepared foods and a line-up of gifted songwriters from the Lewiston area. Our menu included  tasty soups, fresh bread, assorted cheeses, and mouth-watering desserts.  The tradition continues this spring with "Alive in Lewiston: A Celebration of Local Foods, Music, and Visual Art." This red carpet event will premiere a movie featuring Lots to Gardens highlighting the work we do in the community.  A smorgasbord of homegrown musical performances will follow with the Berwicks playing "raging reels and sinuous jigs for dancing," the Saahibo Band will perform Somali music, Deacon Lasanga will inspire us with his passionate spoken word and we will tantalize your taste buds with freshly prepared appetizers using local foods.

"Alive in Lewiston" will be held Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Franco-American Heritage Center.  Doors open at 6:00 pm.  Tickets will be sold on a sliding scale of $5 to $50+ with a suggested donation of $10 for
individuals and $25 for families.  First come, first served.  Proceeds will
benefit Lots to Gardens' educational programs.  Although a tuxedo and ball gown are not required, we would encourage everyone to dress up as if they were going to a real Hollywood movie premier - this is your chance to get fancy!!  The movie premiere will begin at 7:00 pm and the music will follow.

Lots to Gardens is growing good food to change our community.  We use
sustainable urban agriculture to create access to fresh food, and to nurture healthy youth and a healthy community.  Since 1999, we have built fifteen gardens and greenspaces in four diverse neighborhoods in Lewiston, Maine. We are sponsored by Sisters of Charity Health System.

Our community food projects include apartment-side and community gardens with more than sixty families and senior citizens; neighborhood veggie stands that provide affordable organic produce; weekly community meals and garden events; cooking and nutrition classes; activities at the Lewiston Farmers' Market; and a youth empowerment program. Each year, we grow and distribute thousands of pounds of organic food throughout the city.
